OAKLAND — The Oakland community ice rink on the Old Belgrade Road is open and ready for use daily as long as there is ice. The location serves as a basketball court in the summer located next to the Sexton’s Garage.
The ice rink project, under the supervision of Kelly Roderick, was made possible with money raised by a GoFundMe account, and many volunteers.
With the help of Mike Palmer of Ace Tire and Automotive, the grounds and public works crews in Oakland, and a few days of gathering and prepping supplies and putting it together, and countless hours of filling, packing snow and more, the rink was ready. The fire department helped partially fill the rink as well.
The Charette family and Shine On Cass Foundation also donated two benches that will have the Shine On Cass logo added to them next year.
