ORONO — Eduards Tralmaks scored with 2:28 remaining Saturday night, helping the Maine to a 3-2 victory at Alfond Arena that eliminated New Hampshire from the Hockey East playoffs.

Maine (18-14-4) swept the three-game series against the Wildcats (10-20-6) and advanced to the best-of-three quarterfinals at Providence. Game 1 is at 7 p.m. Friday.

Liam Blackburn put New Hampshire ahead 1-0 midway through the first period. Maine answered with second-period goals by Mitchell Fossier and Nolan Vesey.

Danny Tirone had 37 saves for New Hampshire, which scored in the final minute after pulling its goalie. Jeremy Swayman stopped 25 shots for Maine.

COLBY 5, WESLEYAN 1: Sean Lawrence made 39 saves and five players scored for Colby (14-10-2) against Wesleyan (13-8-5) in a NESCAC semifinal at Hartford, Connecticut.

The Mules will meet Trinity (19-5-2) on Sunday.

Dan Dupont and Spencer Hewson scored in the first period, and Kienan Scott, Cam MacDonald and Phil Klitirinos added third-period goals for Colby.

NICHOLS 8, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 3: Filip Virgili scored twice to lead the fifth-seeded Bisons (18-8-3) over the third-seeded Nor’easters (20-6-3) in the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship game at Biddeford.

Tyler Seltenreich, Brady Fleurent and Dimitris Jones scored for UNE, which hopes to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.

LACROSSE

AMHERST 22, COLBY 7: Colin Minicus had five goals and four assists, and Ethan Wolf added four goals as the Mammoths won an opener at Amherst, Massachusetts.

Tucker Dietrick and C.J. Hassan each scored two goals, and C.J. Layton stopped 13 shots for Colby.

CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 8, BOWDOIN 6: The Camels went ahead 8-5 with four-straight goals to close the third quarter and won an opener at New London, Connecticut.

Brian Kujala had three goals for the Polar Bears. Shawn Daly, Matthew Crowell and Nick Conway also scored, and John Young made six saves.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 17, PLYMOUTH STATE 4: Mitch Mullin and Alex Zadworny each scored four goals and the Nor’easters (2-0) held the Panthers (0-1) to a goal in each quarter at Biddeford.

Collin Morrow finished with three goals and Sam MacKenzie made nine saves for UNE.

MIDDLEBURY 11, BATES 10: Henry Riehl scored four goals for the Panthers (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) against the Bobcats (1-2, 0-1) at Middlebury, Vermont.

Matt Chlastawa had four goals and Clarke Jones added three for Bates, which scored the final two goals.

SOUTHERN MAINE 18, MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY 1: Nate DelGiudice scored five goals and Seth Wing added three as the Huskies (1-0) beat the Mariners (0-2) at Castine.

Ethan Ouellette, Paul Leonardo and Derek Davidson each scored twice for USM.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

VERMONT 75, MAINE 60: Trae Bell-Haynes and Payton Henson scored 21 points each to power top-seeded Vermont (26-6) over eighth-seeded Maine (6-26) in the quarterfinals of the America East tournament at Burlington, Vermont.

Isaiah White led Maine with 17 points and Aaron Calixte scored 11.The Black Bears led 12-4 and trailed just 36-33 at halftime.

(1) VIRGINIA 62, NOTRE DAME 57: Devon Hall scored 17 points and Virginia (28-2, 17-1 Atlantic Coast) outlasted Notre Dame (18-13, 8-10) at Charlottesville, Virginia.

(15) MICHIGAN 75, (2) MICHIGAN STATE 64: Mo Wagner scored 14 of his 15 points in the second half and Michigan (27-7) moved within a game of its second straight Big Ten tournament title by beating Michigan State (29-4) in the conference semifinals at New York, ending the Spartans’ 13-game winning streak.

(3) XAVIER 65, DEPAUL 62: Trevon Bluiett scored 22 points, and Xavier (27-4, 15-3) set a school record for regular-season wins while clinching the top seed in the Big East by beating DePaul (11-19, 4-14) at Chicago.

(4) VILLANOVA 97, GEORGETOWN 73: Jay Wright moved into a tie atop the school career wins list with 413 as Villanova (27-4, 14-4 Big East) beat Georgetown (15-4, 5-13) at Philadelphia.

OKLAHOMA STATE 82, (6) KANSAS 64: Kendall Smith scored a career-high 25 points, and Mitchell Solomon had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead Oklahoma State (18-13, 8-10 Big 12) over Kansas (24-7, 13-5) at Stillwater, Oklahoma, in the regular-season finale for both teams.

(8) PURDUE 78, PENN STATE 70: Carsen Edwards scored 27 points and Purdue (28-5) pulled away from Penn State (21-12) in the second half at New York to reach the Big Ten championship game for the second time in three seasons.

BASEBALL

(24) MIAMI 7, MAINE 6: Freddy Samora doubled home the tying run in the bottom of the 15th inning and scored the winning run on a single by Alex Toral as the 24th-ranked Hurricanes (4-6) beat the Black Bears (3-7) in Coral Gables, Florida.

Maine took the lead twice in extra innings, on an RBI single by Caleb Kerbs in the 14th and a throwing error that allowed Christopher Bec to score in the 15th. Miami tied it in the bottom of the 14th on a wild pitch.

Kerbs also hit a two-out, two-run double in the ninth to force extra innings.
