HIGH SCHOOLS

Cheverus defenseman Mike Hatch, Falmouth forward Theo Hembre, Portland defenseman Cam King and Lewiston defenseman Ryan Bossie have been selected as the four finalists for the 2018 Travis Roy Award.

The award is given annually to Maine’s best senior high school hockey player in Class A.

The winner will be announced at the all-state banquet at noon Sunday, March 25 at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston.

Hatch is a four-year varsity player for Cheverus (14-5-1) who has played in three regional title games, including this season against Biddeford. He anchored the Stags’ defense, which allowed just 35 goals during the regular season.

Hembre led the Yachtsmen (16-6-1) on offense with 46 regular-season points (27 goals and 19 assists), and King totaled a team-high of 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) for Portland (8-9-2).

Bossie helped Lewiston win its third straight state title, leading a defense that allowed just 31 goals in 21 games.

HOCKEY

NHL: Buffalo Sabres leading scorer Jack Eichel isn’t sure when he’ll be cleared to play after returning to practice for the first time since spraining his right ankle a month ago.

• Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Matt Murray is nearing a return from a concussion that’s sidelined him for two weeks.

Murray hasn’t played since sustaining the concussion after taking a shot to the face mask in practice late last month.

BASKETBALL

WNBA: The Minnesota Lynx, the defending champion, signed free-agent guard Tanisha Wright.

Wright is a 12-year veteran who most recently played for New York in 2016, averaging 6.7 points and 3.6 assists in 29 games.

NBA: The Clippers say guard Avery Bradley could miss the rest of the season after having surgery to repair muscles in his pubic area.

G LEAGUE: The Delaware 87ers got 46 points and 11 rebounds from Christian Wood and overcame a triple-double by Daniel Dixon in a 126-125 win over the Maine Red Claws at Newark, Delaware. Maine has lost six straight.

Dixon recorded the 13th triple-double in Red Claws franchise history with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Maine (17-29) was led by Anthony Bennett with 31 points and 10 rebounds. Devin Williams added 26 points.

Kyle Randall made two free throws in the final seconds to secure the win for Delaware (15-32).

TENNIS

OBITUARY: Ken Flach, who won four Grand Slam titles in men’s doubles and two in mixed doubles, has died, according to the ATP World Tour and International Tennis Federation. He was 54.

The ATP World Tour announced Flach died Monday night in California after a brief illness.

BNP PARIBAS OPEN: Simona Halep is on track to retain her No. 1 world ranking after defeating Wang Qiang 7-5, 6-1 in the fourth round at Indian Wells, California.

Halep improved to 17-1 this year and needs only to reach the final to stay at the top. If not, Caroline Wozniacki, who beat Halep in the Australian Open final, could replace her if Wozniacki wins the title. Halep and Wozniacki are the only former Indian Wells winners left in the women’s draw.

Next up for Halep is Petra Martic, who beat Marketa Vondrousova 6-3, 7-6 (4).
