University of Maine men’s basketball coach Richard Barron has decided on two additions to his coaching staff, according to news reports.

Former UMaine player Kevin Reed, who scored 1,601 points from 2002-07, and Orono High boys’ basketball coach Jason Coleman will join Barron’s staff, according to Fox Bangor-WVII ABC 7.

Neither hire has been officially announced.

Barron’s staff will include three assistants and a director of basketball operations.

Coleman resigned as Orono’s coach on Monday, said Athletic Director Mike Hatcher. Coleman, 32, is a 2003 graduate of Orono High and had been the school’s head coach for seven seasons, guiding the team to three regional finals. Coleman is expected to fill the director of basketball operations position, according to hoopdirt.com.

Reed, a 2007 Maine graduate, twice led the team in scoring and ranks fourth on Maine’s career scoring list. After playing professionally in Europe for three seasons, Reed returned to Maine and became Bangor Christian’s basketball coach in 2010. He is now the school’s assistant principal and athletic director.
