The discovery of a dead man’s naked body in the middle of a Scarborough street early Sunday morning is being investigated by the Maine State Police.
Scarborough Police Chief Robby Moulton said Monday evening that a newspaper carrier for the Maine Sunday Telegram discovered the body in the vicinity of 30 Skyline St. around 5 a.m. The man’s identity has not been released yet.
“The man was lying in the street,” Moulton said. “He was completely naked, except for his socks and slippers.”
Officers from the Scarborough Police Department responded but could not find any visible signs of trauma. Because of the unusual circumstances, Moulton said his officers notified the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit, which has since taken over the investigation.
The body of the man – believed to have been in his 60s – was transported to Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
Moulton said the man lived with his father in a modular home development located off Route 1 near Maine Medical Center’s Scarborough campus. The man’s father was not at home when the body was discovered.
“His death does not appear to be suspicious,” said Moulton, who referred all other questions regarding the man’s identity to state police.
Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine State Police, said Monday night that he had not been briefed on the Scarborough incident and therefore would be unable to provide any additional information regarding the man’s death.
