LEWISTON — Sam Carlin scored his second unassisted goal of the game with two seconds remaining Wednesday as Bowdoin edged Bates 14-13 in a NESCAC men’s lacrosse game.

Daniel Buckman and James Strabley each had two goals and two assists to pace a balanced attack for Bowdoin (7-2, 4-2), and Jimmy Young added two goals and an assist.

Matthew Crowell and Brett Kujala each chipped in with a pair of goals.

Andrew Small had four goals for Bates (6-5, 2-4). Curtis Knapton had three goals and an assist and Matt Chlastawa added three goals for the Bobcats.

EMMANUEL 13, ST. JOSEPH’S 7: The Saints (1-7, 0-2 GNAC) scored 11 straight goals from the 6:59 mark of the second quarter to the beginning of the fourth quarter, erasing an early 6-1 deficit to beat the Monks (4-7, 0-3) in Standish.

Michael Finn scored three goals for the Monks.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 15, GORDON 8: The Nor’easters (5-5, 1-1 Commonwealth Coast) scored seven unanswered goals in the third quarter to beat the Fighting Scots (4-5, 0-2) at Biddeford.

Alex Zadworny led UNE with four goals and three assists and Mitch Mullen had three goals and three assists.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

SOUTHERN MAINE 12, SALEM ST. 4: Aliza Jordan scored three of her five goals in the first half for the Huskies (5-3), who opened the game by scoring seven straight goals en route to a win over the Vikings (1-7) at Hannaford Field in Gorham.

GORDON 13, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 12: Olivia McCarrick scored five goals and broke an 11-all tie with 10:29 left to push the Scots (5-6, 2-0 CCC) past the Nor’easters (4-6, 1-2) at the Big Blue Turf in Biddeford.

The Nor’easters trailed 9-5 early in the second half, but rallied to tie the game at 10 after Casey Conwell scored from Korinne Bohunsky with 13:06 to go. Conwell scored five goals, four in the second half.

Gordon regained the lead at 11:35 on a goal from McCarrick, but Jolena Lampron tied the game 24 seconds later. McCarrick put in her go-ahead goal less than a minute later.

BOWDOIN 15, BATES 13: Katherine Miller had four goals and two assists to pace the Polar Bears (7-3, 3-3 NESCAC) in a win over the Bobcats (6-5, 1-2) at Brunswick.

Bates opened a 6-1 lead in the first 12:28, but Bowdoin answered with the next six goals to take a 7-6 halftime lead.

The Polar Bears extended their margin to 12-8, scoring five of the first seven goals of the second half, but the Bobcats took a 13-12 lead with a 5-0 run.

Bowdoin took the lead for good with goals in a span of 17 seconds from Eliza Denious and Miller.

Hannah Hirshfeld had four goals for the Polar Bears.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

MIAMI: Freshman guard Lonnie Walker IV says he’ll turn pro this year, a move anticipated even before his college career began.

DUKE: Freshman Trevon Duval is entering the NBA draft. He is the 14th Duke freshman to declare for the draft, and the second this offseason. Teammate Marvin Bagley III said last week that he was turning pro and is projected to be a high lottery pick.

BOSTON COLLEGE: Guards Jerome Robinson and Ky Bowman will enter the NBA draft but won’t sign with an agent in case they decide to return to school.

The two players would maintain their eligibility if they are not happy with where they are drafted.
