ORONO — Annie Kennedy threw six scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out five, to start Maine on its way to a doubleheader sweep with a 3-0 win over Maryland-Baltimore County in an America East softball game Saturday.

Maine (16-16, 7-2 America East) scored all its runs in the fifth inning. Laurine German singled home Rachel Carlson, and Alyssa Derrick followed with a two-run double.

German and Maddie Decker each had a pair of hits in Game 2, which Maine won 5-3 to move into first place in the conference.

UMBC fell to 8-26 overall, 3-7 in the conference.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS: Maizie Lee’s two-run homer highlighted an eight-run fifth inning as St. Joseph’s (9-13, 5-5 GNAC) defeated Anna Maria 13-0 in five innings in a doubleheader opener at Paxton, Massachusetts.

Libby Pomerleau was 3 for 4 with three runs scored in Game 2, and Kaylee Burns added a two-run homer as St. Joseph’s won 8-0 in six innings.

St. Joseph’s Coach Jamie Smith got his 500th career win Friday with a doubleheader sweep against Lasell.

USM SWEEPS: Brooke Cross drove in all three runs in Game 1 and hit an RBI single in Game 2 as Southern Maine (15-12, 4-2 Little East) swept a doubleheader against Rhode Island College (6-12, 0-6), winning 3-1 and 3-0 in Providence, Rhode Island.

Cross belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning of the opener, then singled home Erin Martin in the sixth. Amber Kelly pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts.

USM took a 2-0 lead in Game 2 on third-inning RBI singles by Martin and Cross. Winning pitcher Alexis Brown allowed only two hits and worked around six walks, finishing with eight strikeouts.

BOWDOIN SWEEPS: Caroline Rice was 2 for 3 with two RBI in Game 1 and hit a two-run homer in Game 2 to pace Bowdoin (22-7, 7-2 NESCAC) to a pair of wins against Trinity (12-9, 3-3) at Brunswick, 3-1 and 5-4.

In the opener, Rice singled home Jordan Gowdy in the first inning and drove in Ali Miller with a fourth-inning single.

Jenna Thomas added a home run in the fifth.

UNE SPLITS WITH NICHOLS: Meg Harvey went 3 for 3 with two RBI, including a home run, to lead the Nor’easters (13-13, 6-4 Commonwealth Coast) to a 9-2 win over Nichols (11-10-1, 4-5-1) in the second game of a doubleheader in Biddeford.

Nichols won the opener, 3-2 in eight innings.

TUFTS 12, COLBY 4: Jamie Stevens went 2 for 4 with a three-run homer to power the Jumbos (18-6, 7-2 NESCAC) past the Mules (1-18, 0-6) in five innings in Waterville.

Colby got its runs in the fourth inning after falling behind 8-0. Vanessa Warshaw hit a two-run triple, Julia Saul followed with an RBI double, and Wiley Holton hit an RBI single.

WESLEYAN SWEEPS BATES: Julie McDonald scored the go-ahead run on an error in the bottom of the sixth as the Cardinals (10-12, 1-5 NESCAC) rallied for a 3-2 win over the Bobcats (11-10, 1-5) to complete a doubleheader sweep in Middletown, Connecticut.

Bates went ahead 2-1 in the fifth on an RBI single by Kristen Pelletier.

The Cardinals won the first game, 1-0.

SMCC LOSES TWICE: Tori Lemay pitched a six-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk in Game 1, then drove in the winning run in Game 2 as New Hampshire Technical Institute (15-5, 2-0 YSCC) swept a doubleheader against Southern Maine Community College (9-13, 1-3) at South Portland, 10-0 and 7-6.

Madison Eastman went 3 for 4 with an RBI for SMCC in Game 2.

LACROSSE

SOUTHERN MAINE 12, WESTERN CONNECTICUT 9: Aliza Jordan scored five goals and Alex Farley added three as the Huskies (7-4, 1-2 Little East) defeated the Colonials (3-8, 0-2) at Gorham.

The Huskies got five straight goals, including two each by Jordan and Farley, to break away from a 6-6 tie.

ST. JOSEPH’S 9, MT. IDA 7: Elyse Caiazzo and Kayla Kelly each scored three goals as the Monks (9-3, 5-2 GNAC) held off the Mustangs (10-2, 6-1) at Standish.

Madison Beaulieu added two goals and Samantha Medlin got the final goal for the Monks.

SALVE REGINA 15, UNE 11: Katie Kline scored seven goals as the Seahawks (4-7, 3-2 Commonwealth Coast) downed the Nor’easters (4-8, 1-4) at Newport, Rhode Island.

UNE was paced by Korrine Bohunsky with four goals. Keara Dwyer added three and Mackenzie Collins finished with two.

BOWDOIN 13, WESLEYAN 11: Hannah Hirschfeld scored five goals for the Polar Bears (10-3, 5-3 NESCAC), who needed a late rally to beat the Cardinals (8-5, 4-4) in Brunswick.

Bowdoin got four straight goals, including two by Hirschfield, to erase a 10-9 deficit. Kate McAloon and Eliza Denious also scored in the comeback.

Denious finished with two goals, and Hirschfeld had three assists.

COLBY 18, WILLIAMS 7: Kendall Smith scored six goals and Sasha Fritts had five as the Mules (7-5, 3-5 NESCAC) beat the Ephs (5-7, 2-6) in Waterville.

The game was tied at 6 before Fritts and Smith scored in the final minute of the first half.
