A mother and son from Berwick were arrested after allegedly bringing heroin and fentanyl to Maine and selling it to undercover drug agents.

Aaron Nadeau, 39, and his mother, 57-year-old Diane Beaton were taken into custody following a three-month investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Berwick Police Department. Police said the pair sold fentanyl to drug agents several times.

On April 19, agents acted on information that Nadeau was traveling to Methuen, Massachusetts, to pick up a large amount of heroin and fentanyl, police said. Agents and troopers executed a search warrant on his car during a traffic stop on I-95. Nadeau was in the car with his girlfriend, 41-year-old Tanya Leighton.

Agents found 62 grams of suspected fentanyl in Leighton’s purse. Police said Nadeau admitted to agents that they went to Methuen to buy the fentanyl for $1,000.

The estimated street value of 62 grams of fentanyl is $6,200, according to police.

MDEA agents and Berwick police also executed a search warrant at Nadeau and Leighton’s house, where they seized two firearms. Nadeau is a convicted felon in New Hampshire.

Nadeau and Leighton were arrested and each charged with unlawful trafficking in schedule W drugs. They were taken to York County Jail and bail was set at $5,000 each.

On April 24, agents obtained an arrest warrant for Diane Beaton on a charge of unlawful trafficking in schedule W drugs. She was taken into custody Tuesday night and taken to York County Jail. Her bail was set at $20,000.
