A Boston man has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for illegally possessing firearms.

On Monday, U.S. District Court Judge D. Brock Hornby also sentenced Dane Mitchell, 26, to three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of firearms.

Authorities said Mitchell and another person traveled to Gray in April 2017, where they rented firearms, bought ammunition and fired the weapons at a shooting range. Boston police officials identified Mitchell and the shooting range from videos that were uploaded to Snapchat, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Portland said.

Mitchell had been prohibited from possessing firearms as the result of felony convictions in Massachusetts in 2016 for possessing a firearm without a permit and possessing a firearm with a defaced serial number.

Mitchell pleaded guilty to the charges in Maine in August.
