WAYNE — Maine author Earle Shettleworth will talk about his latest book “Maine in World Ware I” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the Cary Memory Library, 17 Old Winthrop Road.

Shettleworth served as the director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission for decades and as Maine’s State Historian since 2004. His latest book describes how more than 35,000 Mainers joined the armed forces in 1917-18 to fight with America’s European allies against Germany. The book is co-authored by Jason C. Libby.

Those who attend can learn about how Maine citizens provided vital support to the U.S. and Allies through war-related industries such as shipbuilding, munitions, textiles and agriculture. The war may have been over there, but its effects were experienced throughout the state.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
