The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will hold its annual sustainable agriculture field day tour from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at UMaine’s Rogers Farm, 914 Bennoch Road, Old Town.

The free event is designed for farmers, crop advisors and people interested in agricultural production who want to learn more about sustainable agriculture research with a focus on small grains, potatoes, soybeans and crop modeling.

Topics include undersowing and cover crops for potatoes, weed management in small grains and soybeans, and using green manure as a nitrogen source.

Presenters include UMaine Professor of Weed Ecology and Management Eric Gallandt, Extension Soil and Water Quality Specialist John Jemison, Extension Sustainable Agriculture Specialist Ellen Mallory, Extension Sustainable Agriculture Research Associate Tom Molloy and UMaine graduate students in sustainable agriculture Audrey Laffley, Margaret Pickoff and Brogan Tooley. Several new Extension faculty members also will participate. Roger’s Farm is part of UMaine’s J.F. Witter Teaching and Research Center.

Participants will receive one pesticide certification credit and 2.5 certified crop advisor credits. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. on site.
