FAIRFIELD — School Board Chairwoman Shelley Rudnicki defeated Town Councilor Beverly Busque in the Republican primary in House District 108.
According to unofficial results Tuesday night, Rudnicki defeated Busque 332-169, winning 66 percent of the vote.
Rudnicki, 51, has served on the School Administrative District 49 board of directors for 10 years, including the last three as chairman. She is the owner of Shelley’s Used Car Lot in Fairfield.
Busque, 58, who has been on the Town Council for the past year and a half, described herself as a “pro-lifer” who ran because she wanted to make sure a bill banning female genital mutilation got passed.
Rudnicki, who said she had wanted to run for the Legislature for the past 20 years, will now take on Fairfield Town Councilor Aaron Rowden in the fall for the seat. Rowden was unchallenged in the Democratic primary.
House District 108 consists of Fairfield, Mercer and Smithfield.
