The DaPonte String Quartet will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the Centre Street Church in Machias. The group will be perform string quartet repertoire from their “Summer Goulash” program of Haydn, Bartok and Brahms.

Founded in 1991 in Philadelphia, the group moved to Maine more than 20 years ago surprising the musical world by leaving a cosmopolitan, urban area for rural Maine. They have appeared in France, Scotland, Canada and more than 20 American states. Their performances have been broadcast over nation-wide radio and television programs in both the U.S. and Canada.

The members of the quartet were proud to call Maine home, and their relationship with mid-coast Maine remains a deeply rooted one. In an effort to make their concerts more accessible to local residents and families, Machias Bay Chamber Concerts will accept donations at the door instead of a set ticket-price. There is a suggested donation amount of $15 per adult to help defray costs. All students are encouraged to enter donation-free.
