FARMINGTON — A local man was injured Tuesday when his car landed half in a ditch and half on Porter Hill Road.

Dana E. Staples, 65, of Farmington had taken a left turn from Owen Mann Road onto Porter Hill Road and driven a short distance when his tires got into the dirt shoulder of the road and went partly into a ditch, Farmington police secretary Bonnie Pomeroy said as she read from Officer Jacob Richards’ report Wednesday.

Staples was wearing glasses and injured his nose, she said. He declined medical treatment.

Sgt. Edward Hastings IV, a drug recognition expert, was called in to do some tests.

Staples was subsequently arrested on a misdemeanor charge of operating under the influence of suspected drugs or combination of suspected drugs and alcohol, Pomeroy said.

A conviction on an OUI charge carries up to 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Staples was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center and was released on $250 cash bail.
