BRUNSWICK — Brunswick police are investigating what they believe is the theft of a Bowdoin College van sometime early Sunday and are asking for help identifying a person of interest in the case.

The 2008 Ford Econoline van was taken from Bowdoin College property sometime between 2-5 a.m. Sunday, Brunswick Police Cmdr. Mark Waltz said. He declined to say where the vehicle had been parked.

The van was driven onto the Mere Creek Golf Course and caused some damage, Waltz said, though he declined to describe the extent of damage.

Police have the van, but did not provide details about when, how or where they recovered it.

Brunswick police posted photos and a video of the person of interest, who appears to be a man, on the department Facebook page. He may have been walking or hitchhiking on Route 123 in Harpswell in the area of High Head Road around 5 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The posts characterize the incident as a case of aggravated criminal mischief.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or who has any information about the incident should call 207-725-5521, email Detective John Roma at jroma@brunswickpd.org or email tips@brunswickpd.org.
