BANGOR — A Maine man who shot and killed a burglar has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison on federal drug and gun charges.

Jordan Richard, 25, of New Vineyard was sentenced Monday to 160 months behind bars after he pleaded guilty in June to conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl, among other drugs, and discharging a firearm, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Prosecutors said Richard and others conspired to distribute the drugs in Franklin County between January 2016 and September 2017.

Authorities said Richard shot and killed one of two men who tried to rob him in July 2016. Investigators at the scene seized cocaine, more than $20,000 in cash and drug packaging materials.

Richard’s attorney said his client acted in self-defense, and the state declined to prosecute him for the fatal shooting.
