A tanker truck rolled over and blocked both lanes of the northbound Maine Turnpike near mile marker 50 in Portland on Friday night, backing up traffic for several hours.

The crash happened after 7 p.m. in the northbound lanes near mile marker 50. All northbound traffic on Interstate 95 was being rerouted at exit 48 in Portland and was able to re-enter the turnpike at exit 52 in Falmouth, according to Twitter alerts from the Maine Turnpike Authority.

A wrecker was on scene as of 8:45 p.m., working to clear the tractor-trailer from the highway, but the Maine Turnpike Authority was advising northbound drivers to use exits 44 or 45 to detour around the area.
