Portland lawyer Marcus gets Skowhegan Savings board seat

Portland attorney Benjamin Marcus was elected recently to the Skowhegan Savings board of directors, according to a news release from the bank.

The election took place at the Skowhegan-based bank’s 149th annual meeting, held at Good Will-Hinckley in Hinckley for the election of board members and corporators and a report on the financial performance of the bank.

Marcus is the managing director of Drummond Woodsum, a Portland-based law firm with more than 85 attorneys in Maine and New Hampshire. He specializes in corporate and commercial law, being recognized by New England Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers USA and Chambers USA for excellence in his field in the areas of mergers and acquisitions and bankruptcy and creditor debtor rights.

Marcus takes the place of retiring board member William Shay, an attorney in Skowhegan, after his 17 years of service to the board.

Five new corporators also were elected: Brian Bernatchez, managing director and financial advisor of Golden Pond Wealth Management, in Waterville; Lisa Landry, human resources director of Redington Fairview General Hospital, in Skowhegan; Jacques Santucci, president and managing partner of Opus Ventures, in Portland; Karl Strand, president and general manager of Sugarloaf, in Carrabassett Valley; and Brad Stokes, owner of Oquossoc Grocery and manager of Morton Furbish Insurance, in Rangeley.

Shelly Lowell, community banker in the Franklin County region, was awarded the bank’s annual President’s Award for outstanding performance and her commitment to her customers. Lowell has worked more than 25 years in retail and commercial banking. A Rangeley resident, she volunteers at the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Rangeley Board of Selectmen.

Rich St. Pierre, the bank’s chief financial officer, reported at the meeting that the bank had grown to nearly $600 million in assets with a capital base of $87 million. Net operating income is at an all-time high of $5.1 million. The bank invested more than $87 million in loans to businesses and individuals during 2018.

Golden Pond Wealth Management hires Brann

Katie Brann has joined Golden Pond Wealth Management in Waterville as a client service associate. She previously was employed as an investor services representative by Stone Coast Fund Services in Portland.

Brann is a graduate of Boston University and is studying to obtain her Series 7 investment securities license and her Certified Financial Planner.

She lives in Sidney with her husband, Zach.

Care & Comfort appoints Dixon director of nursing

Michelle Dixon, of Winslow, a registered nurse, has been appointed the director of nursing at Care & Comfort, a Waterville-based behavioral health, home health and veterans services agency that provides care across 13 Maine counties, according to  news release from Care & Comfort.

Dixon will be responsible for the clinical oversight of Care & Comfort’s Home Health Division.

Dixon, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Southern Maine, has extensive experience in many facets of nursing including hospice, oncology, and adult mental health.
