SOUTH CHINA — An early morning fire killed sheep and destroyed a barn Friday on Parmenter Hill Road.

South China Fire Chief Richard E. Morse said crews responded to the call at 5:30 a.m. and stayed at the scene for approximately four hours. A handful of sheep died.

“We did a good job as far as I’m concerned,” Morse said. “Mutual aid is essential and it worked very well.”

Firefighter crews from Palermo, Vassalboro and Albion assisted on the call.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
