Midcoast artist and author Maureen Egan will deliver a a virtual art show entitled “By the Waters of the Winds,” during the month of March hosted by the Camden Public Library. The paintings in the show were inspired by two challenging and resplendent hikes with her husband in the Wind River Range of Wyoming. The online art exhibit will be accompanied by a Zoom program at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, featuring the screening of a film by Egan and her husband, Tim Seymour, which documents the eight-day hiking adventure in 2019. Egan and Seymour will also discuss the creative process of filmmaking and art-making and will answer audience questions. The art show is on view on the library’s website through the month of March. This is Egan’s second art show for the library. It is the culmination of painting over a two year period as she processed the backpacking trips that brought her face to face with stunning landscapes, dramatic weather, and her physical limits. “Back home in the studio,” recounts Egan, “I relived the most vivid scenes in order to recreate them to share with those who want to be reminded of or inspired by such places. We are so privileged to have vast swaths of wilderness in this country, and I hope to encourage others to experience some of them.” Egan’s artwork is undeniably vibrant and radiates the spellbinding qualities of Wyoming wilderness.

Seymour, a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School, is a trained photographer and graphic designer. Seymour took up filmmaking in 2015 to document his 240-mile hike on the John Muir trail in California that year. His film premiered to a packed house at the Camden Public Library just over five years ago and is still popular on YouTube with over 114,000 views.

Egan’s art show will feature a mix of original paintings and giclee prints available for purchase. She has kindly offered to donate 20% of sales from the show to benefit the Camden Public Library.
