SOUTH CHINA — Michael Nicholas III of Chelsea, a senior at Erskine Academy, has been selected to receive the 2021 Principal’s Award.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principal’s Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic excellence, outstanding school citizenship, and leadership.

Nicholas is a consistent high-honors student in a highly competitive academic program that includes all classes taken at the honors or accelerated level, as well as numerous Advanced Placement and Concurrent Enrollment courses with nearby colleges. He has received recognition and accolades from within and outside of the school for his standout accomplishments in the classroom, athletics, and voluntary community service.

Nicholas has been named a 2020-21 Indigenous Scholar and Rural and Small Town Scholar by the College Board; he is a finalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, and he is Valedictorian for Erskine Academy’s Class of 2021.

“Michael is universally respected and esteemed by the school community. He is an exemplary student, school and community citizen, and a fine representative of Erskine Academy and young people in general. Michael personifies the school’s core values of scholarship, leadership, stewardship, and relationships,” noted Headmaster Michael  McQuarrie when making the award.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association that represents Maine’s school administrators.
