SIDNEY — A Vermont man died Wednesday after his vehicle went off the road and struck a tree.

Maine State Police have confirmed a fatal vehicle crash on Interstate 95 near the Waterville-Sidney town lines.

Jack A. Davis, 60, of Sheffield, Vermont, was the operator of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in an email Wednesday that the agency was on scene at mile-marker 124 northbound on I-95. At approximately 2 p.m., the agency responded to reports of a vehicle that had traveled off the road.

Witnesses on the scene said that they witnessed a black Dodge Ram that had been hauling a trailer veer off to the right side of the road and hit a tree.

“The accident is being investigated as a single vehicle crash. Davis was the only person in the vehicle,” Moss said in the statement. “The Maine State Police would like to extend their condolences to the family and friends of Jack Davis.”
