Chelsey Roy of St. Albans was believed to have died on impact, according to police. Her 3-year-old son, who was in the back seat, was taken to Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, where he was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.

Roy was not wearing a seat belt when her white 2011 Chevrolet Cruze went off Palmyra Road and hit a tree, according to Chief Deputy Mike Mitchell of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred just before 6:30 a.m., near 408 Palmyra Road, where it intersects with Magoon Road.

“The million-dollar question right now is to what actually caused this accident,” Mitchell said. “Nothing can be confirmed of what actually made her drive off the road.”

Mitchell said Roy was reportedly heading to work at the time of the crash. There was a witness to the crash, according to police, but the person was not at the scene when a reporter arrived.

According to her Facebook page, Roy graduated earlier this month from the dental hygiene program at the University of Maine at Augusta Bangor Campus. She was also a graduate of Nokomis High School in Newport.

In the hours after the crash, Roy was remembered for her dedication to her family, career and education. Roy’s sister, Taylor Roy, said her sister “was such a beautiful person inside and out.”

“She did everything she could do, being a full-time mom, working full time and going to school full time,” Taylor Roy said. “She was the best mother, sister, daughter, cousin, girlfriend and friend to everyone around.

“If you saw her, she would always have a smile on her face, making sure everyone around her was good before herself.”
