The Franklin County Animal Shelter in Farmington plans to host a drive-up rabies clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 19, at the Jay Hannaford parking lot, 15 Jay Plaza Lane.

The clinic asks pet owners to form a line of cars and to remain in their vehicle. The veterinarian will come to each car to administer the rabies vaccination, and staff will be with them with all the paperwork.

All cats must be in a carrier. A van or trailer will be on site, to which cats will be brought in order to safely administer their vaccines without them escaping.

Staff will administer microchips and flea/tick preventative if requested as well. Because of the nature of this event, no nail trims or any other vaccinations will be performed.

The costs are as follows: Rabies vaccination, $15; flea/tick, $10-$15; microchipping, $20.

Cash will only be accepted at this clinic; exact change is preferred. Checks and credit cards will not be accepted.

People are asked to bring their pet’s current rabies certificate to qualify for a three-year certificate. For those that do not have their pet’s current rabies certificate, the veterinarian can only administer a one-year rabies vaccination.

Masks are mandatory for the veterinarian to approach each car and vaccinate each pet.

Pet owners do not have to be a Franklin County resident to take part in this rabies clinic.

For more information, contact the shelter from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 207-778-2638.
