CORNVILLE — Two men have been arrested on charges of burglary and theft after allegedly breaking into a home on West Ridge Road on Monday evening.

Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said that deputies were dispatched at 7:28 p.m. to a home after a report of a residential burglary that had been interrupted by the homeowner.

“The alleged burglars were traveling in a white Ford pickup and were parked in the homeowners’ driveway when discovered by the homeowner,” Lancaster said. “The alleged burglars, when confronted, fled the scene.”

Items taken from the home that were recovered by police included a television, tools, a chainsaw and office supplies. The items were found in Skowhegan and returned to the homeowner.

Sgt. Mat Cunningham and Deputy Isaac Wacome responded to the call and evidence gathered at the scene as well as a brief investigation led to the arrest of two men, Lancaster said. Facing charges of burglary and theft are Scott Jones, 54, of Norridgewock and Duane Sawyer, 47, of Skowhegan.

Both Jones and Sawyer are scheduled to appear in Somerset County Unified Criminal Court on Sept. 22. The Somerset County District Attorney’s Office will be reviewing the case.
