UMF recognized as top 10 college by U.S. News & World Report 2022 Best Colleges

The University of Maine at Farmington has been recognized as a top 10 college in five separate categories by U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges, including Best Value College, Top Public College, Top Regional College, Best College for Veterans and Top Performer on Social Mobility.

The annual college rankings named UMF fourth in Best Value Colleges, based on Farmington’s academic quality and affordability. Farmington is ranked number five in Top Public Colleges, and number six in Best Regional Colleges Public and Private.

UMF was further ranked number two under the Best Colleges for Veterans rubric, and scored another number-two slot in the Social Mobility category, which looks at how well schools provide affordable access to higher education and graduate students from lower-income families.

U.S. News collected data on more than 1,850 institutions.

Forbes names Skowhegan Savings best bank in Maine and third in the nation

Skowhegan Savings has been recognized as the 2021 best bank in Maine — and third in the country — in a ranking by Forbes and Statista Inc., an industry statistics provider.

The bank is the only Maine-based financial institution in this year’s top 5.

Annually, Forbes and Statista identify America’s Best-In-State Banks based on an independent survey of approximately 25,000 U.S. consumers who were asked to rate banks at which they have or had checking accounts. Of the 4,978 FDIC-insured banks in the United States, only 135, or 2.75%, made this year’s list. Banks across the country averaged an overall satisfaction score of 79.1 out of 100, while Skowhegan Savings rated 93.6.

The bank has 12 branches in central, western and southern Maine.
