PITTSFIELD — A Canaan man was injured after falling asleep at the wheel and driving into a ditch, according to Pittsfield Chief of Police Harold “Pete” Bickmore.

At about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Gary Moshier, 33, of Canaan was driving east on Canaan Road when he fell asleep. Moshier’s vehicle, a 2008 white Kia Sportage, then left the road to the right and went into a ditch and rolled over.

Moshier suffered a head injury but was conscious, Bickmore said. He was taken to Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield to meet LifeFlight of Maine.

Bickmore said Wednesday afternoon that Moshier was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and was still in the ICU. He sustained severe injuries, including multiple fractures, broken ribs and a head injury.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and Moshier was not impaired, Bickmore said.
