WINSLOW — It was Nick Girard’s only basket of the game. And it came at a big moment.

Girard hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, lifting the Black Raiders to a come-from-behind 52-51 victory over Presque Isle in Winslow.

Winslow, which rallied from a 41-30 deficit entering the fourth quarter and improved to 4-1 with the victory, while Presque Isle suffered its first defeat and fell to the same 4-1 mark.

“It was an awesome team win,” said coach Ken Lindlof, whose team was without four players, including star forward Jason Reynolds. “We had people in foul trouble, people who weren’t there. Players had to step up and play serious minutes. … We stuck with it and battled all the way.”

Presque Isle missed a free throw with seven seconds left, and Winslow pushed the ball up the floor. A sequence of passes sent the ball to Girard, who had only hit two free throws to that point, and the senior drilled his shot from the corner to give the Black Raiders the dramatic win.

Antoine Akoa had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Winslow, which went 13-for-15 from the free-throw line, while Andrew Poulin scored 10 and Lucas Boucher and Brayden Rodrigue had eight apiece.
