The next business meeting of the Winthrop Maine Historical Society is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, on Zoom. The  link is networkmaine.zoom.us/j/81096636540.

On Dec. 1, the society honored Anna Lyon as its first volunteer of the year. In her work on the WMHS calendar, Lyon volunteered to assist the calendar committee and has produced a 2022 calendar. Lyon was nominated by the calendar committee and approved by the historical society board because of her ability to take historical information and create a snapshot in history for each month of the year.

The calendars are available at the Winthrop History and Heritage Center at 107 Main St., or call 207-395-5199. The center is open 1-5 p.m. Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

The society is searching for the oldest house in Winthrop. Those who think their house qualifies can send their nomination along with their name and contact information to WMHS at P.O. Box 33, Winthrop, ME 04364, or drop their nomination by the center during open hours. Nominations due by Tuesday, March 1.

The building committee still seeks donations for its building fund. The society’s goal is to raise $150,000 for the purchase, repairs and renovations that were required prior to the grand opening last August. People can make out a tax-deductible check to WMHS and write “building fund account” in the memo section and mail it to the organization.
