ROME — No chickens died after a fire broke out in a chicken coop Friday night, officials said.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is not under investigation, said Ed Pearl Jr., assistant fire chief, on Saturday morning.

The Rome Fire Department was called at 8:15 p.m. for a report of a small building fire. It was a full mutual aid call, which includes the towns of Belgrade, Oakland, Sidney and Smithfield, but the Rome Fire Department only used the help of Belgrade after they were able to put the fire out around an hour later.

No chickens died in the fire, Pearl said, since the family let the chickens out earlier in the day.

The coop was located in the back of a residential home on Augusta Road, which is Route 27.
