An Augusta man who allegedly assaulted a woman who was giving him a ride home and attempted to force her vehicle off the road by grabbing the steering wheel was indicted on several charges recently by a Kennebec County grand jury.
Christopher M. Good, 56, was getting a ride home Nov. 18 from a 39-year-old Augusta woman who works for a mental health agency when he allegedly tried to take advantage of her in a sexual manner, then assaulted her and tried to crash the vehicle she was driving by grabbing the steering wheel and turning it, according to Lt. Chris Massey of the Augusta Police Department.
Good was indicted on charges of assault, unlawful sexual touching, obstructing the report of a crime, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, disorderly conduct, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and terrorizing.
The indictments were handed up by a Kennebec County grand jury that convened Jan. 20 and 21 at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta.
The reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon charge, a Class C offense, alleges Good recklessly created a substantial risk of serious bodily injury to the woman, pedestrians and construction workers on Mount Vernon Avenue that day by using an automobile as a dangerous weapon.
Massey said Good also took some of the woman’s personal items. The theft indictment indicates those items included glasses and/or hair products. The indictment also alleges Good tried to prevent or interfere with the woman’s ability to report the incident to police.
The disorderly conduct charge, a Class E offense, alleges Good “did knowingly accost, insult, taunt or challenge” another woman and/or Augusta paramedics and/or pedestrians in the immediate vicinity and screamed obscenities and/or made reference to sexual assaults to or toward those same people.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt but does indicate enough evidence exists to proceed with formal charges and a trial.
