VESTAL, N.Y. — Alba Orois drained a 3-pointer with 1:34 left to give the University of Maine the lead for good in a 48-46 win over Binghamton in an America East women’s basketball game on Sunday.
The Black Bears improved to 11-10 overall and 8-3 in the conference with their season-high fifth straight victory.
Maine trailed by eight points when Binghamton’s Dena Bowman hit a layup with 9:14 left in the fourth quarter. The Black Bears rallied to take the lead, 38-36, on a 3-pointer by Caroline Bornemann with 5:36 remaining. The teams traded the lead until Orois’ 3-pointer made it 45-44. Bornemann made a layup to push it to a three-point lead and Maine held on.
Maeve Carroll had 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Black Bears. Anne Simon and Bornemann each had 11 and Orois finished with 10.
Denai Bowman had 17 points for Binghamton (5-14, 1-8).
AMHERST 72, BOWDOIN 54: The Mammoth took a 15-8 first quarter and extended it to 38-21 at halftime as they cruised past the Polar Bears at Brunswick.
AnLing Vera had 26 points, including four 3-pointers, for Amherst. Dani Valdez added 16 points and Reeya Patel had 11.
Sela Kay scored 25 points to lead Bowdoin.
UMASS-DARTMOUTH 67, SOUTHERN MAINE 65: Jordan Moretti hit a pair of free throws down the stretch as the Corsairs (14-5, 8-2 Little East) beat the Huskies (5-12, 4-4) in Gorham.
Shaelyn Carreiro had 22 points to lead UMass-Dartmouth, while Kaylin Zalewski added 10.
Victoria Harris had a game-high 25 points for Southern Maine, while Amy Fleming added 11.
(2) STANFORD 83, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 57: Cameron Brink scored a career-high 26 points and had 14 rebounds and the Cardinal (18-3, 9-0 Pac-12) beat the Trojans (9-11, 2-8) in Los Angeles to remain undefeated in the Pac-12.
Hannah Jump added 12 points, and Lexie Hull, Lacie Hull and Francesca Belibi each had nine for the Cardinal. Stanford extended its winning streak to nine since a 65-61 road loss to No. 1 South Carolina on Dec. 21.
(4) LOUISVILLE 100, SYRACUSE 64: Liz Dixon scored a season-high 18 points and Kianna Smith had 16, helping the Cardinals (21-2, 11 -1 ACC) beat the Orange (9-12, 2-9) in Syracuse, New York.
(5) INDIANA 64, PURDUE 57: Nicole Cardaño-Hillary scored 19 points and Grace Berger had 17, leading the Hoosiers (16-3, 8-1 Big Ten) over the Boilermakers (13-10, 4-8) in Bloomington, Indiana.
(6) MICHIGAN 98, (21) IOWA 90: Naz Hillmon scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds, and the Wolverines (20-2, 11-1 Big Ten) beat No. 21 Iowa (15-6, 9-3) in Ann Arbor, Michigan, despite the Hawkeyes getting 46 points from Caitlin Clark.
Laila Phelia added 24 points, four rebounds and three assists for the Wolverines (20-2, 11-1 Big Ten), and Maddie Nolan contributed 17 points.
Clark was the lone bright spot for the Hawkeyes (15-6, 9-3). She and Sydney Affolter each grabbed six rebounds.
(8) ARIZONA 73, OREGON STATE 61: Cate Reese had 19 points and Koi Love came off the bench to score a season-high 16, helping the Wildcats (17-3, 7-3 Pac-12) beat the Beavers (11-7, 4-4) in Tuscon, Arizona.
(9) BAYLOR 63, (13) TEXAS 55: NaLyssa Smith scored 28 points and No. 9 Baylor (17-5, 7-3 Big 12) continued its dominant run against the Longhorns (15-6, 5-5) with a win in Austin, Texas, the Bears’ second victory over the Longhorns in three days.
(10) UCONN 75, (7) TENNESSEE 56: Freshman Azzi Fudd scored a career-high 25 points in her first start to help the Huskies (15-4) beat the Lady Vols (19-4) in Hartford, Connecticut.
FLORIDA 54, (14) GEORGIA 51: Zipporah Broughton scored the final four points and the Gators (17-6, 7-3 SEC) scored the final eight to knock off the Bulldogs (17-5, 6-4) in Athens, Georgia.
(17) MARYLAND 80, NEBRASKA 65: Chloe Bibby scored 21 points to lead six players in double figures and the Terrapins (17-6, 9-3 Big Ten) defeated the Cornhuskers (17-5, 6-5) in College Park, Maryland.
ARIZONA STATE 55, (19) OREGON 49: Jade Loville scored six of her 16 points in the fourth quarter, Ayzhiana Basallo scored 10 points with six assists off the bench and the Sun Devils (11-8, 3-3 Pac-12) beat the Ducks (14-7, 7-3) in Tempe, Arizona.
FLORIDA STATE 70, (20) NOTRE DAME 65: Valencia Myers finished with 14 points and eight rebounds to help the Seminoles (11-10, 5-6 ACC) beat the Fighting Irish (18-5, 9-3) for the first time in program history, in Tallahassee, Florida.
(25) NORTH CAROLINA 85, MIAMI 38: Deja Kelly scored 18 points, North Carolina built a 26-point lead in the first quarter, and the Tar Heels (18-4, 8-4 ACC) walloped the Hurricanes (12-9, 5-6) in a Play4Kay game in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
AMHERST 68, BOWDOIN 56: Garrett Day had 13 of his 24 points in the second half as the Mammoth (14-6, 4-3 NESCAC) pulled away and beat the Polar Bears (11-10, 2-6) in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Grant Robinson also scored 24 for Amherst.
James McGowan had 19 points for Bowdoin, while Xander Werkman added 11.
UMASS-DARTMOUTH 93, SOUTHERN MAINE 55: The Corsairs (18-2, 10-1 Little East) closed the first half with a 15-0 to take a 46-24 lead at the half and beat the Huskies (9-1, 4-7) in Gorham.
Adam Seablom had 25 points for UMass-Dartmouth.
Cody Hawes had 14 points and 11 boards for Southern Maine. Simon Chadborne added 10 points.
(6) HOUSTON 80, CINCINNATI 58: Fabian White Jr. scored 22 points, Jamal Shead had 17 points and the Cougars (20-2, 9-0 AAC) won their 12th straight game by beating the Bearcats (15-7, 5-4) in Cincinnati.
Taze Moore scored 13 points and Reggie Chaney added 10 for Houston, which hasn’t lost since Dec. 2 — a one-point loss at then-No. 9 Alabama.
(15) PROVIDENCE 71, GEORGETOWN 52: Jared Bynum scored a career-high 32 points and the Friars (20-2, 10-1 Big East) won their seventh in a row, beating Georgetown in Washington and sending the Hoyas (6-15, 0-10) to their school-record 11th straight loss.
The Friars completed a season sweep of the sputtering Hoyas and have won 12 of 15 against their longtime conference rival since 2015.
(16) OHIO STATE 82, MARYLAND 67: E.J. Liddell had 24 points and 11 rebounds, and the Buckeyes (14-5, 7-3 Big Ten) beat the Terrapins (11-12, 3-9) in Columbus, Ohio.
Ohio State led by as much as 22 points in the second half of its fourth victory in five games. It shot 51% from the field, including an 11-for-26 performance from 3-point range.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
AMHERST 3, BOWDOIN 0: Rylee Glennon and Alyssa Xu scored 58 seconds apart as the Mammoth (9-7-1, 6-5-1 NESCAC) beat the Polar Bears (9-7-1, 5-6-1) in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Julia Weiss added an empty-netter.
Dani Marquez recorded 23 saves for Bowdoin, while Caitlin Walker stopped 26 shots for the Mammoth.
ENDICOTT 3, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 1: The Gulls (13-5-1, 12-2-1 CCC) scored twice in the third period to beat the Nor’easters (6-10-2, 6-6-2) in Beverly, Massachusetts.
Meghan Francis scored in the first to give Endicott the lead, before Carolyn Curley scored in the second for UNE to tie it. Payton Hansen put the Gulls ahead early in the third and Kellie Popkin added an insurance goal.
Michaela O’Brien had 21 saves for the Gulls and Delanie Corcoran recorded 40 saves for the Nor’easters.
SOUTHERN MAINE 2, NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 1: Maddy Young scored an unassisted goal to break a 1-1 tie with 1:18 to play as the Huskies (13-9, 10-6 NENC) beat the Pilgrims (3-16, 0-14) in Henniker, New Hampshire.
Rylie Binnette opened the scoring for USM 3:39 into the third but Emily Lenzen countered for New England College 4:27 later.
Haley McKim had 19 saves for the Huskies, while Sean D’Urso fought off 53 shots for the Pilgrims.
MEN’S HOCKEY
AMHERST 1, COLBY 0: Connor Merrill scored from Matt Toporowski with 3:11 to play in the second period as the Mammoth (8-9-2, 7-6-1) knocked off the Mules (12-4-1, 9-3-1) in Waterville.
Andy Beran had 16 saves for Colby, while Dan Dachille stopped all 32 shots he faced for Amherst.
NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 7, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: David Novotny had a pair of second period goals and added an assist for the Pilgrims (11-8-1, 6-8-1 New England Hockey Conference) as they blanked the Huskies (7-10-1, 5-7-1) in Gorham.
Anthony D;Aloisio stopped 23 shots for Southern Maine, with Spencer Kozlowski turning aside all 37 shots faced for New England College.
