WATERVILLE — Traffic was halted Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 95 in Waterville following a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer, Maine State Police said.

Police responded to the wreck near mile marker 129 in the southbound lanes around 1 p.m., according to a state police spokeswoman, Katy England.

The crash occurred when a sedan traveling onto I-95 failed to yield to traffic, England said. Traffic was stopped while first responders provided medical care to people inside the vehicles.

Only minor injuries were reported and they were taken to a Waterville hospital for further evaluation.

One lane of the highway was eventually opened to alleviate the traffic backup. State police were assisted by the Waterville fire and police departments, Maine Warden Service and Maine Department of Transportation.

No charges were expected to be filed, England said, and state police are reminding drivers that when traveling onto the interstate they are obligated to yield to vehicles that are already on the highway.
