The Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society plans to hold its spring general meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St., Auburn.

A brief business meeting will be followed by refreshments and guest speaker Anna Faherty’s presentation from 11 a.m. to noon, according to a news release from the society.

Faherty, archivist of the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine (Lewiston-Auburn College), will give a presentation about her work and the physical and digital resources available at the collection.

She will provide illustrations and talk about the items in the collection, which vary in format from photos and scrapbooks to letters and clothing. She will include the different themes and subjects represented in the collection, such as snowshoeing, school, French language and newspapers, and religion.

Faherty will explain how to access both the Franco Collection’s podcast, “Franco-American Pathways,” and the Franco-American Digital Archive, which is an online database created by multiple Franco cultural heritage institutions.

Faherty is a graduate of Simmons University with a dual master’s degree in history and archives management. Before working at the Franco-American Collection, she worked at Fort Ticonderoga, an 18th-century military site integral in the French and Indian Wars (also known as the Seven Years War) and the American Revolution. Her historical background is in labor and immigration in the United States from the 19th- to the early 20th-century.
