Do you support the University of Maine’s decision to extend embattled Chancellor Dannel Malloy’s contract by one year?

Dannel Malloy will continue to be the chancellor of the University of Maine System for at least one more year after the board of trustees voted recently to extend the embattled leader’s contract.

Malloy, who has led the UMaine System since 2019, came under fire in recent months following the botched hiring of a new president for the University of Maine at Augusta. That triggered faculty at three of the system’s seven campuses to vote that they had no confidence in his leadership and faculty at the other four campuses to issue letters in support of those no-confidence votes.

Malloy’s three-year contract was originally set to expire June 30, but the board of trustees extended it until July 11 to further deliberate the chancellor’s future with the university system in the wake of the controversy.

But what do you think? Do you support the UMaine’s decision to extend Malloy’s contract by one year? Let us know what you think the poll and comments below.
