SKOWHEGAN — Police officers who conducted a traffic stop over the weekend found an 8-year-old child in an SUV with three adults who were in possession of several grams of fentanyl and crack cocaine, authorities said Monday.

A Mitsubishi SUV was stopped by police Saturday on Madison Avenue and in addition to the 8-year-old, they found 21 grams of fentanyl and more than 30 grams of crack cocaine, police Chief David Bucknam said in a news release.

Taken into custody were Trisha Bennett, 43, of Norridgewock; Terry Nurmi, 46, of Skowhegan; and Taron Ross, 25. Police did not provide a hometown for Ross, only saying that he’s a resident of New York.

The child is the daughter of Bennett and Nurmi, Bucknam said. The girl was later handed over to family members.

Bennett, Nurmi and Ross are being held without bail at the Somerset County Jail.

Bennett was charged with aggravated trafficking of a scheduled drug, endangering the welfare of a child and operating under the influence of drugs. Nurmi was charged with aggravated trafficking of a scheduled drug and endangering the welfare of a child. Ross was charged with aggravated trafficking of a scheduled drug.
