Diane E. Slason, formerly of Somerville, and now Heritage Nursing Home in Winthrop, was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Maine Health Care Association. The ceremony was held June 1 at the Augusta Civic Center.

She was recognized for being an accomplished equestrian for more than 75 years. She started riding at age 5, according a news release from her husband Frank D. Slason of 65 years.

Slason was unable to attend because of Alzheimers. The nursing home held its own modest ceremony with most of the staff attending.
