Musician Marc Black brings history to life through the songs of 1950s and 60s in his Boppa Chua Program at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Lewiston Public Library. This free, public program will take place in Callahan Hall and is directed towards adults though all ages may participate.

The New York Blues Hall of Fame inductee will be your guide through an evening of song, storytelling, and laughter through these two historically defining decades celebrating wonderful songs as diverse as “Itsy Bitsy, Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini” and “Blowin’ in the Wind,” as well as tunes by artists ranging from Dean Martin to George Harrison. In addition to the music and conversation. The program features a slide show by Susan Black.

Black is an eclectic folk-rocker who deals with life, and all its social and political challenges, one song at a time. Inducted into the New York Chapter of the Blues Hall of Fame in June of 2014, he has performed and recorded with many luminaries including Art Garfunkel, John Sebastian, Rick Danko, Richie Havens, Taj Mahal and Pete Seeger. He was chosen to play at one of the Levon Helm’s Midnight Rambles and was also named Folk Artist of the Year on ABC Radio.

While still in high school, Black’s band, the Blades of Grass, reached the Top 40 performing alongside the biggest acts of the day including the Doors, Van Morrison and Neil Diamond. Black also won the American Library Association Award for Best Children’s Album of the year for his production of American Children. Black has produced 15 audio recordings and his YouTube videos have been viewed more than a hundred thousand times.
