Darius Quisenberry scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half as Fordham rallied for a 72-67 win over Maine in a men’s basketball game Wednesday night in New York.
Maine (4-3) led 54-46 after a layup by Peter Filipovity with 8:48 remaining, but a 3-pointer by Quisenberry started a 17-3 run by Fordham (7-1).
Gedi Juozapaitis led Maine with 19 points. Filipovity finished with 12 and Milos Nenadic scored 10.
COLBY 68, BOWDOIN 52: Lucas Green made 4 of 6 3-pointers and finished with 16 points off the bench, and the Mules (7-0) remained undefeated with a nonconference win over the Polar Bears (3-3) in Brunswick.
Colby shot 42.6% from behind the arc, hitting 11 of 26 attempts. Alec McGovern scored 14 points and Noah Tyson added 12.
James McGowan led Bowdoin with 16 points.
SOUTHERN MAINE 86, UMAINE-FARMINGTON 77: Chance Dixon scored 16 of his 21 points in the first half as the Huskies (6-1) broke out to a 44-30 lead and turned back the Beavers (3-2) in Farmington.
Mark Asare contributed 16 points, with four 3-pointers. Simon Chadbourne added 11 points and Tommy Whelan had 10.
Terion Moss led UMF with 23 points. Jack Kane finished with 16 points and four blocks.
NHTI 75, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 62: Sean Riley scored 17 points to lead the Lynx (4-3, 3-2 YSCC) past the SeaWolves (7-4, 2-2) in South Portland.
Jack Pyzynski finished with 26 points, including five 3-pointers, for SMCC.
GORDON 88, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 60: Garrett Sattazahn led the Scots (4-3, 1-0 Commonwealth Coast) with 23 points in a win over the Nor’easters (2-6, 0-1) at Biddeford.
UNE got 14 points from Ray Evans and 11 from Drake Gavin.
(13) TENNESSEE 76, MCNEESE STATE 40: Santiago Vescovi scored 16 points to lead the Volunteers (6-1) past the Cowboys (2-6) in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Julian Phillips added 12 points and Olivier Nkamhoua had 11.
The Vols struggled from the field (9 of 26, 35%) but still led 30-14 at intermission. McNeese State had just one assist and hit 24% from the field (6 of 26).
(17) DUKE 81, (25) OHIO STATE 72: Freshman Kyle Filipowski had 16 points, including a key three-point play with 2:37 left, to help the Blue Devils (7-2) beat the Buckeyes (5-2) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Durham, North Carolina.
Jeremy Roach added 13 points for the Blue Devils, who had a strong stretch late in the first half to take a 10-point lead into the break. Duke tenaciously held its lead even as the Buckeyes stayed within reach and repeatedly made multiple pushes to climb closer, including three separate times of getting the margin to five points.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
SOUTHERN MAINE 65, UMAINE-FARMINGTON 49: Maria Degifico led the Huskies (2-3) with 16 points in a win over the Beavers (1-5) at Farmington.
Vanessa Vaughn added 12 points and Amy Fleming tossed in 11.
Victoria Garand paced UMF 15 points.
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 84, GORDON 80: Gabby Soter hit two 3-pointers in overtime and Keegan Dunbar made five free throws in the final 25 seconds as the Nor’easters (5-3, 1-0 Commonwealth Coast) outlasted the Fighting Scots (2-5, 0-1) in Biddeford.
Jordyn Franzen paced UNE with 17 points and nine rebounds. Soter finished with 15 points, Juliana Tracey scored 12 and Dunbar chipped in with 11.
Madison Wynbeek led Gordon with 22 points. Naomi Nicholson sent the contest to overtime by hitting a deep 3-pointer with four seconds left in regulation.
SOUTHERN MAINE CC 107, NHTI 48: Ashleigh Mathisen scored the first seven points and finished with 21 as the SeaWolves (8-1, 4-0 YSCC) routed the Lynx (0-3, 0-2) in South Portland.
SMCC had six players in double figures, including Tara Flanders, who contributed 17 points off the bench, with four 3-pointers.
FOOTBALL
UAB: Former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer was hired as head coach on the eve of his high school team’s state championship game, UAB’s athletic director announced.
Dilfer, 50, won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2000 during a 14-year NFL career. He’s making a big leap to the college ranks after leading Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, to three state title games in four seasons as head coach.
FLORIDA: Backup quarterback Jalen Kitna, the son of retired NFL quarterback Jon Kitna, was arrested and charged with two counts of distribution of child exploitation material and three counts of possession of child pornography.
Gainesville police said the 19-year-old Kitna shared the images via a social media platform. Kitna was booked in the Alachua County Jail, where he was awaiting a first appearance before a judge on Thursday morning.
The Gators suspended Kitna indefinitely about an hour after his arrest.
