Kyree Brown finished with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists as the University of New Hampshire beat UMaine 71-58 Wednesday night in an America East men’s basketball game at Bangor.

The Wildcats (7-8, 3-1 AE) hit four 3-pointers – three by Brown – in the final 2:57 of the first half to take a 38-30 halftime lead.

UNH then had a 7-2 run early in the second half to pull away from the Black Bears (6-10, 0-3), who have lost six straight.

Nick Johnson had 11 points and 11 rebounds for UNH. Jaxson Baker added 15 points.

Gedi Juozapaitis led Maine with 19 points. Kellen Tynes added 13 and five rebounds.

NORWICH 80, ST. JOSEPH’S 72: Kohlby Murray had 14 points and seven rebounds to lead the Cadets (9-5, 3-3 GNAC) over the Monks (7-6, 3-2) in Northfield, Vermont.

Devin Lewis and Owen Liss added 13 points apiece for Norwich. Joe Joe DuBrul turned in 12 and seven rebounds.

Griffin Foley had a game-high 22 points for St. Joseph’s. Nicholas Curtis and John Paul Frazier each had 12.

(4) ALABAMA 84, (15) ARKANSAS 69: Visiting Alabama (14-2, 4-0 SEC) went on a 16-4 run midway through the second half and an 11-0 run late to beat Arkansas (12-4, 1-3) to stay stay unbeaten in the Southeastern Conference.

The Crimson Tide made 5 of 6 shots during the stretch in the middle of the second half while Arkansas was just 1 of 7 during Alabama’s run as a tie game turned into a 12-point Alabama lead.

Arkansas pulled within two points with 4:30 left after making five straight shots from the floor to close the gap. Alabama followed with 3-pointers on each of its next three possessions, including one by Brandon Miller, to rebuild the lead to double digits.

(12) XAVIER 90, CREIGHTON 87: Souley Boum scored 26 points and Colby Jones scored 20 as host Xavier (14-3, 6-0 Big East) won its ninth straight game, beating Creighton (9-8, 3-3).

Jack Nunge had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Xavier, which is off to its best start in Big East play.

Baylor Scheierman led Creighton with 25 points.

(16) MIAMI 88, BOSTON COLLEGE 72: Isaiah Wong scored 22 points and host Miami (14-2, 5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat Boston College (8-9, 2-4).

Wong went 7 for 9 from the field, shaking off a miserable performance in Miami’s 76-70 loss at Georgia Tech last week, when Wong had only six points on 1-of-11 shooting.

DeMarr Langford finished with 20 points and Makai Ashton-Langford added 19 for the Eagles.

(22) CHARLESTON 71, UNC WILMINGTON 69: Dalton Bolon scored 16 points and visiting College of Charleston (17-1, 5-0 CAA) held off UNC Wilmington (14-4, 4-1) in their Colonial Athletic Association showdown night to extend the nation’s longest winning streak to 16 games.

Ante Brzovic and Ryan Larson had 13 points apiece as the Cougars ended the Seahawks’ 13-game win streak, the longest in program history.

Larson added seven assists and four rebounds to help Charleston overcome 39% shooting from the field.

Trazarien White had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead UNCW.

(24) DUKE 77, PITTSBURGH 69: First-year big man Kyle Filipowski had a season-high 28 points and matched his season high of 15 rebounds to help host Duke (13-4, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) rally from 12 down to beat Pittsburgh (11-6, 4-2).

The 7-footer was the center of the offensive effort for the Blue Devils, making 8 of 14 shots and 11 of 13 free throws.

(25) MARQUETTE 82, (6) UCONN 76: Oso Ighodaro scored 19 points and showed some uncharacteristic free-throw accuracy down the stretch as  Marquette (14-4, 6-1 Big East) defeated UConn (15-3, 4-3)  at Milwaukee for its fifth consecutive victory.

Marquette erased an early 11-point deficit and outscored UConn 49-39 over the final 20 minutes to continue its recent trend of second-half surges. The Golden Eagles have trailed at halftime in each of their last three wins, which includes a 96-85 victory at St. John’s and a 95-73 blowout of Georgetown.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S 71, NORWICH 53: Hannah Talon and Jayne Howe each had 15 points as the Monks (10-3, 5-0 GNAC) topped the Cadets (6-7, 2-4) in Northfield, Vermont.

Howe was 6 of 11 from the field, including 3 of 7 from long range, and Talon made 15 of 16 free throws. Elisabeth Stapelfeld added 12 points and Angelica Hurley finished with eight points and a team-high 12 rebounds for the Monks, who built a 23-12 lead in the first quarter.

Haley Brewster had 14 points for the Cadets.

(4) UCONN 82, ST. JOHN’S 52: Geno Auriemma returned to UConn’s bench and Azzi Fudd to its lineup as the Huskies (14-2, 7-0 Big East) routed St. John’s (14-2, 5-2) at UBS Arena at Elmont, New York.

Auriemma had missed the Huskies’ previous two games because he wasn’t feeling well. He also missed two games while sick in December. The 68-year-old coach is also grieving the death of his 91-year-old mother in early December.

Fudd, playing in her first game since injuring her right knee against Notre Dame on Dec. 4, finished with 15 points in 20 minutes. The sophomore guard had been averaging 20.6 points but had missed the Huskies’ last eight games.

UConn also got back Aaliyah Edwards (foot) but still was without Ayanna Patterson (concussion), Caroline Ducharme (concussion), Paige Bueckers (knee) and Ice Brady (knee).

Kadaja Bailey scored 17 points to lead St. John’s.

(12) IOWA 93, NORTHWESTERN 64: Caitlin Clark finished a rebound shy of her eighth triple-double and freshman Hannah Stuelke had a career-high 17 points as Iowa (13-4, 5-1 Big Ten Conference) coasted to a win over visiting Northwestern (6-10, 0-6).

(15) IOWA STATE 67, KANSAS STATE 56: Emily Ryan had 14 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists to lead four Iowa State players with 14 points and the host Cyclones (11-3, 3-1 Big 12) beat Kansas State (12-5, 1-3).

(19) OKLAHOMA 89, TEXAS TECH 79: Ana Llanusa scored 20 points, reaching the mark for the fourth straight game, and visiting Oklahoma (13-2, 3-1 Big 12) beat Texas Tech (13-4, 1-3).

Texas Tech led 67-66 with 8:46 left but then made just one of its next nine shots and trailed 84-71 after Skylar Vann and Taylor Robertson combined for an 8-0 Oklahoma run. The Sooners outscored Texas Tech 27-18 in the fourth behind nine points from Vann and eight by Robertson.

(25) VILLANOVA 71, DEPAUL 64: Maddy Siegrist scored 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Villanova (15-3, 6-1 Big East) held off DePaul (10-7, 3-2) at Chicago.

Siegrist, the nation’s leading scorer (28.5), pushed her career total for Big East Conference regular-season games to 1,311 to pass Tracy List of Providence (1988-92) and tie Holly Porter of Boston College (1993-97) for third in league history.
