HALLOWELL — Led by Garrett Card’s four goals, with an additional three goals from Will Durkee, the Messalonskee boys hockey team cruised to a 13-1 win over Cony/Hall-Dale/Monmouth/Winthrop/Erskine on Wednesday night at the Ice Vault.

“It felt good,” Durkee said. “We got most of the lines out there, working hard, getting some goals.”

Jack Hammond, Owen Kirk, Tatum Doucette, Denny Martin and Bjorn Brickett each added goals for the Eagles. It was a bounce-back game for Messalonskee (10-1-0), which lost 3-0 to John Bapst on Saturday for its first defeat of the season.

The Rams fell to 2-6-1.

Durkee and Card each tallied goals for the Eagles in the first period for a 2-0 lead. The floodgates opened in the second period, when Messalonskee added eight goals.

“We were just excited to get back on the ice and get some revenge (off of Saturday’s loss),” Card said. “We were excited to play. The locker room was quiet before the game and we were all focused. We came out kind of soft-ish at first. But we still played hard and picked up the pace.”

Messalonskee outshot the Rams by a 42-6 margin.

Cooper Clark tallied the Rams’ goal in the second period, with an assist from Nick Keezer.
