Mt. Abram boys soccer coach and special education teacher Darren Allen announced on social media Monday that he will not be returning to lead the Roadrunners next season.
“Big changes coming for 2024-25 school year,” Allen wrote on X. “After nine years teaching and 17 years coaching at Mt. Abram HS I have decided to take a new position at Spruce Mountain HS.”
Allen has been a special education teacher at Mt. Abram.
He declined to comment further at this time, but he did tell the Sun Journal that his move to Spruce Mountain High School does not include coaching.
Last season, the Roadrunners went undefeated and won the Class C championship, the school’s first boys soccer state title.
Allen graduated from Mt. Abram in 1988. He returned to lead the Roadrunners for 17 years. His coaching tenure began in 2001. He took a break from 2008-2014, then returned in 2015.
Allen wrote that he will continue to coach the Mt. Abram boys throughout the summer and organize the program’s annual 7-on-7 soccer tournament.
“After the 7v7 I will then concentrate my energy on my new position at Spruce Mountain,” Allen wrote on X.
