In his Maine Compass piece, Austin Theriault tried to critique Jared Golden (“Maine voters deserve better answers from Jared Golden,” Aug. 2). Theriault said, “ … we need balance … in Washington” right after repeating his support for Donald Trump. Trump, however, presents the least “balance” of any candidate in my lifetime, going back to Nixon-Humphrey in ‘68. If you think I’m exaggerating try reading even a few pages of the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025.
More to the point, when it comes to “balance,” I defy Theriault to name a single House member who votes across party lines more than Jared Golden. Criticize your opponent if you wish, Theriault, but please try to base your argument in reality, especially if you are making it public. I don’t mind hearing opinions I disagree with, but Theriault’s piece insults Maine readers’ intelligence.
