HALLOWELL — The public is invited to the free annual meeting of Hallowell Initiatives, set for 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept 14 at the Hallowell City Hall Auditorium, 1 Winthrop St.
Hallowell City Hall is handicap accessible by elevator.
Jane Radcliff of Hallowell will talk about the history of the weathervane — where and when it was made, its ownership by the Hallowell fire department and its iconic standing atop the Second Street fire station fire hose tower for over 140 years before being removed in 2023 for its protection and preservation, how it was stolen and returned during the last century, and future plans for its continued presence and display in Hallowell.
This event will be the first time in 140 years that the public will be able to view the actual weathervane, close up, as it will be on display in the city hall auditorium for this event only.
Hallowell Initiatives is a local organization dedicated to Hallowell historic preservation and to education on the subject of Hallowell History.
