CLINTON — A Clinton man with a history of domestic violence arrests was arrested again Tuesday after police traced a 911 call to a Clinton residence and executed a search warrant there, officials said.

Iver Cardwell, 43, was charged with felony-level violation of condition of release as a result of the incident, according to a statement issued Wednesday morning by Officer Mike Conners, public information officer for the Clinton Police Department.

The Waterville Regional Communications Center received a 911 call at about 5:25 p.m. Tuesday that disconnected, police said. When the dispatcher called back, a woman answered, but did not provide information. The call was then disconnected again.

The call was eventually traced to an approximate location on Main Street.

“With the assistance of (communications center) staff and search of local records, we were able to determine a location of an apartment at 1295 Main St.,” according to the police statement.

Officers determined Cardwell was inside an apartment there with the woman. Release conditions from previous domestic violence arrests prohibited Cardwell from having contact with the woman, according to police.

Cardwell’s release conditions were originally set following a domestic violence-related arrest in Penobscot County.

Police did not release the identity of the woman, and the Morning Sentinel does not identify alleged victims of domestic violence without their consent.

After receiving no answer to knocking on the door and taking reports from neighbors who heard “concerning noises, including a loud thump,” Clinton police officers obtained a search warrant for the residence, according to the statement.

With assistance from deputies from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton police executed the search warrant, making a forced entry into the residence after Cardwell refused to come outside.

Cardwell was found hiding in a bedroom, where the female was also located. Although he initially resisted by attempting to pull away, officers were able to take him into custody without further incident, according to the statement.

Cardwell was being held at the Kennebec County Correctional Facility in Augusta, officials said. He was expected to appear in court Wednesday.

Clinton police officers have arrested Cardwell at least three times in recent months after he allegedly violated conditions of his release, police said.
