JAY — Staff at town offices in Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls are collecting hats and mittens to donate to Regional School Unit 73 for schoolchildren in need.
People are asked to drop off new or gently used hats and mittens in the designated box at each town office: 340 Main St. in Jay, 10 Crash Road in Livermore or 2 Main St. in Livermore Falls.
The collection will end Nov. 30.
Lori Shink, Jay deputy tax collector, said the sock drive organized last year by Doris Austin, Livermore Falls town clerk, was successful. Hundreds of pairs of socks collected in Livermore Falls were donated to the Salvation Army for those in need.
Representatives from each town agreed this year to collect hat and mittens.
