PALERMO — A teenager from China sustained serious injuries Tuesday after he lost control of his vehicle on North Palermo Road in Palermo.

The driver of the 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck was southbound when he drove off the road at 1605 North Palermo Road. The vehicle hit a cement barrier along the driveway of a private residence and overturned, according to Chief Roger Komandt of the Palermo Fire Department.

The cement barrier, which had been placed by the property owner to protect the driveway, was moved by the force of the collision, Komandt said.

The Waldo County Regional Communications Center was alerted to the crash at 12:07 p.m. Members of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, local fire departments and EMS responded to the scene.

The driver was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, according to an announcement from the Sheriff’s Office.
