SKOWHEGAN — An SUV driven by an intoxicated Skowhegan woman collided head-on Saturday night with a Maine Department of Transportation plow truck on Canaan Road, near the intersection with Malbons Mills Road, according to police.

Witnesses said Mary Fournier, 53, was driving a 2011 GMC Terrain on the wrong side of Canaan Road, also known as U.S. Route 2, Chief David Bucknam of the Skowhegan Police Department said in a statement released Sunday to the news media.

Bucknam said Fournier’s failure to remain in her lane caused her SUV to collide with the 2010 International plow truck, which was loaded with sand.

Cpl. Joshua York of the Skowhegan Police Department investigated the crash and determined Fournier was intoxicated, according to Bucknam.

Fournier reportedly needed assistance to get out of her vehicle, after which she was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, where she was treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the state plow truck was not treated for injuries, Bucknam said.

Fournier had been operating under a conditional driver’s license after having been charged with operating under the influence in 2019, Bucknam said.

Following the collision Saturday, which occurred shortly after 10 p.m., Fournier was issued a summons for operating under the influence and failing to maintain her lane.
