Jessica Tomasetti scored nine points in the third quarter as Albany turned a three-point deficit into a four-point lead and ended Maine’s season with a 49-41 win in the America East women’s basketball tournament semifinals on Monday in Albany, New York.
The Black Bears, who won the conference title last season, end this season 15-16 overall, 9-7 in America East play. Albany, the No. 1 seed, improves to 26-5, 14-2 in the conference and will face No. 2 Vermont in the conference championship game at 5 p.m. Friday.
Sera Hodgson made three 3-pointers in the first quarter, but also picked up two fouls, as Maine took a 12-10 lead.
Kayla Cooper recorded 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Albany. Kaci Donovan added 12 points and five rebounds, while Tomassetti finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
Hodgson and Asta Blauenfeldt both scored 11 points for Maine.
