A Waldo County woman was shot and injured by one of three masked men who appeared at her home late Thursday afternoon, the Maine State Police said.

The three male suspects showed up at the woman’s house in Knox around 4:30 p.m., Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a statement Friday morning.

The men arrived at the Bailey Road house in a gold or tan Jeep Cherokee and were wearing ski masks, Moss said. When the 40-year-old woman answered the door, one of the men shot her before they all fled the scene, Moss said.

The victim was taken to Waldo Hospital in Belfast before state police arrived at the house, then was later transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Police said her injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Troopers found and seized the Jeep Cherokee at a nearby residence, Moss said, but the three suspects have not been located.

Moss said police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that “there is no known risk to the public.”

Investigators are asking anyone who has information about the shooting to call the Augusta Regional Communications Center at 207-624-7076.
